Passing as Aryans

edit

Many Jewish children had the necessity to fake their identity for their own safety. They obtained false identity papers usually coming from anti-Nazi resistance that helped them pass as Aryans[1]. For the Nazis, this meant Caucasian people that are not from Jewish descent[2]. Even though this was one of the only ways of survival for children, it imposed mayor security risks. Germans and the police closely examined documents in their search for Jews.[3] Unfortunately, not all minors who were Jews could pass as Aryans and they had to seek other ways of survival.

Circumcision

edit

Circumcision was a Jewish tradition in which infant male Jews went through a procedure with which they demonstrated their covenant with God[4]. Non-Jews usually did not go through the procedure, meaning that it was an easy way of identifying Jews. Children had to be mindful about using public restrooms and participating in team sports because their identity could be exposed.[5] As a solution, they had to go through additional procedures that would hide circumcision or at times even dress up as females.[6]
