Jiri Stavovcik (* 11. May 1971 Banska Bystrica) is an artist, an academician and since 2021[1] a Vice-Rector of Palacky University Olomouc[2].

He has been working at Palacky University Olomouc since 2018[3][4]. From 2019 to 2021 he was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Palacky University. In his artwork in addition to figurative drawings, he focused on depicting the coexistence of people and cities.

Life

He spent his early years in Havana, Cuba and later moved to Olomouc, Czech Republic where he studied drawing and painting under the tutelage of Dr. Peter Exler, a local painter. He entered Palacky University Olomouc in 1989. In 1994 he received a scholarship funded by Charles E. Merrill to study at Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA from where he graduated in 1997.

He continued his art education at Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia and at Minerva Durham’s Spring Studio in New York City. He has been exhibiting since 2006. Since 2007 he has been using IURRO[5] as his artist name. His art was featured in more than sixty exhibitions around the world. In 2010 he created a series of five paintings commissioned by the US Steel Corporation in Washington, DC.
