Draft lead of Inquisition Tribunal edit

The Inquisition Tribunal, also known as the Court of the Inquisition or The Inquisition Scene (Spanish: Escena de Inquisición), is a painting by the Spanish painter/printmaker Francisco Goya; showing a ceremonial accusation (an autillo) of purported heretics conducted by the Spanish Inquisition inside a cavernous and dimly lit church. The four accused men are wearing tall, pointed coroza’s on their heads and the sleeveless vests, known as sambenito, describing their heresies. Ringed around the accused are the clerics and Inquisitors and farther back a sea of invited guests fill the church interior, witnessing the drama. The size of this painting is 18 x 29 inch and the medium is oil paint on wood panel. The exact date Goya painted the scene is unknown and has been much speculated upon but the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, which houses the painting in it’s collection of works by Goya, places the creation between 1808-1812.
