Kendriya Vidyalaya Maithon Dam

Kendriya Vidyalaya Maithon Dam came into existence in 1985 under the sponsorship of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). It is located in the picturesque township of DVC near the bank of Barakar river, over which the Maithon Dam is constructed in 1957 for the generation of Hydroelectricity. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan envisaged it as a great center of learning for the children of the employees of DVC, Maithon. Through the years the school has expanded not just its opportunities for learning, but also its student population and student accomplishments. The vidyalaya provides a blend of students from various cultural and regional background with students from nearly all states of india.

The Origin of the KV

The Vidyalaya was established with the sponsorship of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in 1985. On 13th August 1985, the Vidyalaya started functioning in Gogna Colony, Maithon with Classes I to V. From 1985 to 1995, the Vidyalaya functioned in Gogna Colony and grew up to +2 stage. In the academic session 1995-96, it shifted to its new building located in the Dyke Area, Maithon. In the year 1991, first batch of Class-X passed out. The first batch of Class-XII (Science) passed out in 1995.

Important Milestones of Growth

  • The Humanities stream was opened in the year 2000. It was subsequently closed in 2004.
  • The Commerce stream started from 2004.
  • One section each in Science & Commerce increased from the session 2008-09.
  • All the three streams (i.e., Science, Commerce & Humanities) started functioning again from 2009.


Details of Previous & New Campus

  • The previous campus located in Gogna Colony was provided by DVC Maithon in 1985.
  • The DVC Maithon constructed a new magnificent four-storied compact building with spacious classrooms, well equipped laboratories, library and computer labs.
  • A beautiful children's park with play equipments, lush green playground and a beautiful garden are added features of the vidyalaya.

Achievements

The school has produced great results in the past. The school is also famous for the students participating in national and regional level sports competitions. Every year many students get selected for SGFI meet which is the biggest sports event at school level.
