editNotable Body Dysmorphia Cases
edit- Brooke Elizabeth Butler: Actress and singer, Brooke Elizabeth Butler (born 8 March 2003), has experienced body dysmorphia along with other disorders such as anorexia and binge eating disorder.[1] [2] Her body dysmorphia and other disorders started at the age of 13. For almost four years, Brooke limited herself to a low number of calories a day and if she ate more, she felt guilty. [2] Brooke spent years trying not to eat and believed "What's another day going to do?". [2] What Brooke did not realize was that all her disorders were too much for her body. Brooke later started to experience some long term effects for her health due to her struggles with body dysmorphia; her heart was weakening, she would faint, she developed depression, and anxiety.[2] After going through this hard time in her life and realizing she needed help, Brooke opened up about her problem to her dad; this was her first step to recovery.[2]
Eilish performing at a 2022 concert in The O2 Arena - Lili Reinhart: Born on September 13, 1996, American actress Lili Reinhart has spoken up and brought awareness to her experience about body dysmorphia.[7] Lili's insecurities started at the age of 12 when she experienced really bad acne which later lead to her body dysmorphia.[8] She becomes obsessive over her acne to the point where it's the only thing she can think about and makes her want to hide her face. [9][10][11] Lili Reinhart posted a tweet on September 14, 2023 where she opened up about her insecurities with her arms.[9] She mentions how she wishes there were more average sized arms represented in the media for women and how her "body dysmorphia has been going crazy because I feel like my arms need to be half the size they are currently".[9] Although Lili faces body dysmorphia, she does not hesitate to bring awareness to it and lets others know they are not alone.[9][11]
- Megan Fox: Megan Fox, born May 16, 1986,[12] speaks up about her struggles with body dysmorphia in October 2021 and how she has "never, ever" loved her body.[13][14] [15] As a well-known actress, many people look up to Megan Fox and think she is beautiful, but Megan mentions that she doesn't ever see herself as the way people see her and her appearances.[13][14][15] Like many people, her body dysmorphia started when she was a child. She would look at other people and ask herself why she doesn't look like that .[13][14][15] Megan states that after the release of her film Jennifer's Body in 2009, she went through a hard time in her life where she felt that the film over-sexualized her body image and made her not want to be seen or get pictures taken of her. [13][16] Megan wishes that people would stop paying so much attention to bodies; she would like to be remembered as a brave person who was not scared to explore and become herself without anyone else's opinion/comments.[14]
