Chip Israel (born 1961) is an architectural lighting designer from the United States. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering, Environmental Systems and worked for Lutron Electronics and Grenald Waldron Associates. In 1992, he founded LIGHTING DESIGN ALLIANCE, a full-service architectural lighting design firm that serves a variety of clients worldwide and has won numerous domestic and international awards for lighting design. LIGHTING DESIGN ALLIANCE has grown to include offices in Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Collins, and Dubai offering full service lighting design. He has presented technical papers and educational seminars in over 9 countries and lectured at a dozen universities across the country, and routinely speaks at industry events - Designers Lighting Forum, Illuminating Engineering Society national and local conferences, and the trade shows Hospitality Design, Neocon and Lightfair. In February of 2006 he spoke at the International Congress on Architecture and Technology in Frankfurt, Germany. Since 2006, he has provided intensive sustainable sessions across the United States, is a LEED AP, and designed a corporate office for LIGHTING DESIGN ALLIANCE that operates at only 0.1W of energy per square foot.
Chip is an active member and Fellow of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Board of Directors as the Director of Education, the IALD Education Trust President, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) Hospitality Committee, Bridges and Building Committee member, La Sfacciata Lighting Academy Board of Directors, Designers Lighting Forum of which he is a past President, and is Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Profession (LC). In 2009 Chip was presented the prestigious Penn State Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award, the highest honor bestowed by the School of Engineering. The Alumni Awards recognize graduates who have reached exceptional levels of professional achievement.
