Bibliography

edit

This is where you will compile the bibliography for your Wikipedia assignment. Add the name and/or notes about what each source covers, then use the "Cite" button to generate the citation for that source.

  • Note to self: Wikipedia's more general Strain (chemistry) article actually has information not found in the Ring Strain article, such as how eclipsing interactions can contribute to ring strain in addition to angle strain. Thus, some of the sources on that page may be helpful to cite.
  • Zhao, Qinghua; Zhang, Shaowen; Li, Qian Shu (2005-05-17). "The influence of ring strain and conjugation on the reaction energies of NO2 fission of nitramines: A DFT study".[1]
    • This source is an article from a scientific journal. It is of significance because the "Applications" section of the ring strain article only mentions how ring strain can be used to drive organic chemical reactions, not how ring strain can be used to make compounds more explosive. Since this is a primary source, it is not as weighty as a secondary source, and needs more sources (preferably including a secondary one) to back it up.
  • Tan, Bisheng et. al. (2012-12-01). "Insight into shock-induced chemical reaction from the perspective of ring strain and rotation of chemical bonds".[2]
    • Another scientific journal discussion the application of ring strain to explosives, which could be used to help back up the previous source.
  • Solomons, T. W. Grahm. (1992). Organic Chemistry (5th ed.).[3]
    • The Organic Chemistry textbook I got from my high school teacher. Says specifically how torsional strain, not just angle strain, contributes to ring strain, has pictures which illustrate strained compounds, and gives examples of cis and trans cycloalkane rings with ring strain. This source is a bit old, so I should probably find a newer edition if I can and/or use one of my teacher's textbooks instead of or in addition.
  • Gordon, Mark S. (1980-12). "Ring strain in cyclopropane, cyclopropene, silacyclopropane, and silacyclopropene"[4]
    • The beginning of this article can be helpful in adding more background information about cyclopropene and cyclopropane since they are some of the main compounds mentioned in our article.
  • Bachrach, Steven M. "An Improved Method for Determining Ring Strain Energy"[5]
    • The first paragraph about ring strain energy in this article can be used in providing more details about how to determine ring strain energy.
  • Cortez-Guzman, Fernando et. al. (2003). "The Nonexistence of Repulsive 1,3-Diaxial Interactions in monosubstituted Cyclohexanes"[6]
    • Discusses how certain atoms are more stable in axial positions but cause the cyclohexane ring itself to become unstable.
  • Balanarayan, P. and Gadre, Shridhar R. (2005). "Can Ring Strain Be Realized in Momentum Space?"[7]
    • Provides examples of ring strain in cage-like hydrocarbons
