I've created a fairly simple Wikipedia:Welsh Wikipedians' notice board (shortcut WP:WWNB) to try to get things started. Please have a look and consider signing on, adding it to your watchlist and helping to make sure any users with an interest in the subject know about it. Also please feel free to add things and to change anything you feel needs changing – I'm not under the impression that I own it! Rhion 19:50, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Account Unjustly Blocked

edit

I have discovered that my account "Happyjoe" is blocked from editing due to some sort of misunderstanding over the Big Spring, TX article. I am uncertain who to contact to have this mistake fixed. Please remove this block so that I may complete necessary editing on other articles. Thank you for your timely assistance in resolving this problem... I've just edited the list of "further considerations" you added to the photography article.

  • I thought that "Technologically, there is no system of storage of digital images that gets close to this, even for hard-copy prints" was a little unfair. After all, digital technology is still quite young. So I mentioned this, and noted that already a whole bunch of media and formats have been abandoned.
  • I tried to improve the wording about long exposures. I dunno, maybe it wasn't needed. I made specific mention of thermal noise and manufacturing defects, which I thought was important.
  • Likewise, I also tried to make the point about dust more specific - mentioning that digital sensors are static but film is always being fed through the camera. I also thought the mention of non-SLR digitals wasn't needed. Is dust really a problem for them?

Apart from that, I toned it down it a bit by removing a few "very"'s. Hope you don't mind my edits. Imroy 16:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

RESOLFT

edit

hi there. Please take a look at microscope. The principle is pretty simple actually. It's a more precise formulation of the simple Abbe law, thus effectively making Abbe law a special case. Be welcome to research and extend it. Seriously 90% of the wikipedia articles are not yet usuable, but this is what it is all about. An article here usually gets usable and objective after several hundret edits. Anyways it is all on the microscope page. regards Slicky 21:02, 15 April 2006 (UTC)

TENOM microscopy

edit

Hi. You are right. However it is a university and i didn't have the time to make my own entry. In the future in case i do something like this i will place the copyvio accordingly. That may not make it any better but IMHO it gives other users a start basis and reminds them that heavy editing has to be done in this article.Perhaps u have some spare time and would like to gather information. If nothing helps place a one liner and let the link. Also place a redirect from ANSOM to TENOM: Apertureless NSOM Probes (ANSOM or TENOM) Slicky 08:04, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Indeed, the text you removed contained a lot of waffly information; the article looked more like a page from a catalogue than an enyclopaedia article! Simplicity and summary style are definitely the way to go - especially on an article such as this, which could potentially cover a huge range of topics. Mushintalk 21:05, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Your edit to Brown alga

Your recent edit to Brown alga was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. Your redirect was mal-formed. Tawkerbot2 bot is programmed to recognize valid redirects, and a number of mal-formed redirects, but there's no way it can be made to recognize every way someone could mistype a redirect. I've now fixed the redirect, so all should be good from this point forward. - TexasAndroid 21:49, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

List of Welsh lakes

edit

The new format looks good - nice work. I'll try to add a bit more here and there. It might be worth adding a sentence on minimum size as an introduction to stop people adding things like my neighbour's duckpond to the list. Rhion 11:29, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I've been looking through "The lakes of Eryri" by Geraint Roberts, and found that there are a large number of lakes of 1-3 acres or so in the area. I thought I knew the lakes of Snowdonia pretty well, but there are some in there I've never heard of. Should the lower size limit be increased to 3 or 5 acres I wonder? It would only affect one or two of the ones aleady listed I think. Rhion 17:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Helianthemum

edit

Hi Velela - noticed you'd removed a link to Helianthemum nummularium because it was just a redirect to the genus; I know redirects like this are a nuisance, but it's best not to remove them outright as then (a) the unlinked species looks odd in the species list, and (b) no-one may ever know that there's an article waiting to be written there (tho' I have done a quick stub for it now). I've also done up the taxobox at H. canum as requested by your edit summary - MPF 23:52, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Velela. I noticed earlier that you were helping revert spam additions by the user 147.46.152.45, who later came back under 211.108.131.125. His IP was blocked for a week and his username, User:Moldedpulp, indefinitely. Please feel free to add AIV notices if you see any further spamming of that kind of thing. Thank you. :) --Kuzaar-T-C- 15:19, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Septic tank fact

edit

You added a parenthetical ((fact)) to a statement when I think you intended to tag it {{fact}}. Hopefully, anyway because I think it deserves such a tag. The last sentence (3rd) in particular seems like it should be referenced or removed. The 2nd sentence need to be qualified as misleading - the danger of pathogen movement is related to a combination of short-circuiting in the septic tank and anaerobic failure in the leach field and needs to be so specified. I have been looking for a reference to address this and the 1st sentence "Many pathogenic bacteria can survive in septic tanks for a very long time, owing to the anaerobic conditions." I believe this 1st sentence is highly inaccurate as to normal operation. It is an error based on a simplistic undertanding of the range of reducing environments that are covered by the term anaerobic. My understanding is that the deep anaerobic (methane producing) conditions in a properly working septic tank are toxic to facultative anaerobes. This is a more extreme reducing environment than occurs in the body tissue where disease organisms operate. Those species which do survive extreme reducing chemistry are those particularly vulnerable to the aerobic conditions in the leachfield. My understanding was that this 2-stage redox shift disinfection was by design. That is, we do not depend on just oxidative conditions to protect human health as it relates to groundwater. So far, I am still looking for the reference to corroboarate this. You have a background in the little critters, perhaps you can comment here. Please encourage/discourage me as needed. - Paleorthid 19:58, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Bio-Batch advertisting

edit

Hi Velela, can you take minute to give me a second opinion, have a look at this article and the contributions by Callsign [1] along with this article which seems to be an advert Bio-Batch. Thanks Alex 10:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

This chap Callsign is very keen on the old Bio-Batch! He repeatedly & persistantly puts spam links on biodegradation, plastic carrier bags and anything related to them. --Alex 14:33, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
I have done a mega edit of this to make it generic and then moved it to Biodegradable plastic. See what you think - its a bit scruffy at present and I expect some flack too! Velela 15:04, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
That's looking better. There is a bioplastic article which I will also work on moving into the biodegradable plastic section. I'm sure some flak will be coming, I have already had some with minor removals of links!--Alex 15:17, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Velela, I would appreciate if you can give your oppinion on the MixAlco process article. It is a good article related to the production of chemicals from biodegradable substances. It does seem to have a commercial plug attached to it and is being vigorously defended. --Alex 08:28, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I have removed the multiple plugs to MixAlco. Do you think that it should be moved to an article with a neutral title?--Alex 08:39, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

River article

edit

Thanks for your massive rehaul on "River", which was long overdue. I had been thinking about it myself, but will stay away for a week or so to allow you to complete whatever it is you plan to do. It's already 2000% better, beginning with the beginning--I couldn't believe that there wasn't even an accurate first statement. Good job. Unschool 00:17, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

In the monobook and blue cologne skin, one version of the coordinates shows up in the infobox, the other on the usual places for the articles. This is comparable to other infoboxes. Some skins haven't been updated though to display coordinates properly, thus I was wondering which one you are using. Maybe I can help. -- User:Docu
