American Plastic Bricks were a construction toy manufactured by Elgo Plastics Company of Chicago, Illinois, a division of Halsam Products Company named for founders Harold "Hal" Elliot and Sam Goss. The product was similar to Legos.[1]

The bricks were red and white and locked together to create buildings, and accessories included windows, doors and roofs. They were sold in cylindrical containers with metal lids. One version had green bricks for army structures.[2] The red bricks were used for the walls, and lintels and foundations used white bricks.[3]

Halsam (purchased in 1962 by Playskool[4]) had sold American Logs, a product similar to Lincoln Logs. Another Halsam product was American Bricks, which were made of wood and became the basis for American Plastic Bricks.[5]
