editPsychiatric Social Workers(PSW) work with people with mental illness.PSW's treat( including study, diagnose, plan, treat and follow-up) the psychosocial issues developing as part of mental illness.(Individual, family, friends, society-All areas).PSW's work with Children, Adolescents, Adults, Pregnant Women with psycho-social problems, Aged people, and End of life care issues.India's population suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis have been deprived of Mental Health Treatments.
As per Govt. of India statistics, there are 850 PSW's and all the figures talks about only the lack of workforce. However, there were no attempts to appoint the current qualified PSW's in India.
