I was born in 1952 and studied aerospace engineering at the Uuniversity of Stuttgart and at A&M University.

I worked on the development of numerical simulation using the finite element method for about 20 years, during this time I got in contact with many 'historic' computer systems like VAX, IBM 360/370, Prime, Amdahl, Cray and HP.

Since 1997 I am a full time professor at the University of Media in Stuttgart. In 2010 I spent one semester as a visiting professor at Ryerson University, Toronto.

Besides my professional areas of computer science, finite elements and numerical simulation I am also interested in renewable energy. I converted our energy profligate home, built in 1954 into an nearly zero energy house.

I hold a private pilot's license and do a lot of flying in my spare time.
