Ongwediva annual TradeFair
editThis is an exbibtion show that takes place annually in the northern town Ongwediva in the Oshana Region.The mayor of the town Patricia Kashupulwa[[1]]welcomed the visitors for the event during its 10th annivesary.The objectives of the event is to:
- Empower the Sme's within the town
- To genetrate income for the council
- To provide a room for the local business to promote their products
- Creat a platform for business linkages
The show host various exhibtions such as consumer goods,food,art and crafts,telecommunication.The exhibitors also provide agricultural products.This event provides a platform for NGOs and Governmental organisations to show case the products and services to the clients.The mobile telecommunication company [[2]](MTC)has been the official sponsor for the past 4 years.The show takes place in mid august to september every year.It is open to the public and welcomes exhibitors from 13 countries around the world.The show takes place for week,it attracts alot of visitors to the town.The normal entrance fee apply every day,where the children pay N$5.00 and adults N$10.00.Every year the head of state his excellence Hifikepunye Pohamba ,officially open the event,and on this day the public gets free entrance.There are various fun activities available at the event,espeacially for kids.This is on of the best event were parents can take out the children and have have fun.In 2011, It was hosted for its eleventh year and was officially opened that day at a ceremony attended by dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, members of Parliament, various ministers, governors and mayors, as well as exhibitors and members of the media.
Among these were Prime Minister Nahas Angula, Trade and Industry Minister Hage Geingob, Justice Minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, Ongwediva mayor currently Jason Asino and Oshana region governor Clemens Kashuupulwa.
OATF brings together different people from various cultures and businesses. The primary objective of the OATF is to exposeOngwediva business-wise,”said Jason Asino at the opening ceremony. He said the town council was committed to improving infrastructure but needed the support of the community in order to achieve this. The junior mayor of Ongwediva, Teckla Iitula, appealed to the country’s leaders to encourage and create opportunities for the youth to get involved in business ventures in order to address the high unemployment rate. “We are the leaders who must take Namibia to the next level of governance.Ongwediva may be a small town but development is taking place at a very fast pace,” Teckla Iitula said. Prime Minister Nahas Angula said in his keynote address that it is the responsibility of every citizen to grow the Namibian economy so that everybody could have their share. He praised the organisers of the trade fair for arranging a successful event despite the flooding experienced in the north earlier this year.
