Political violence in Namibia edit

Ethnic hatred and tribally motivated violence amongst supporters of different political parties is a major issue. Evidently the two political parties mostly involved in such practices are the ruling SWAPO party of Namibia and the RDP, best known as the opposition party. This kind of political violence happens all over the country. An example is when SWAPO party supporters stopped RDP supporters from holding a meeting. This happened in Uutapi, where smashing of vehicles, stone throwing and even setting ablaze the RDP flag, were part of the actions of SWAPO supporters. The police was unable to stop it until a few hours later only.

Simeon Shindenge, the Omusati Region Commander, was out of reach after many efforts to contact him. This event and many others have been described by some as a “micro civil war”. Such matters have been closely criticized by many Human rigths defenders, such as Phil Ya Nangolo.
