Early Life: edit

Dilip Mohanty was born on 15 May 1978 into a poor family in small village Haladharpur, Kendrapara, Odisha where he attends a school till class 1 in a village and then his grandfather took him to Guwahati, Assam for study and into sports, where he was working as grounds man in Nehru Stadium.

Difficult Phase of Life: Tennis is a very costly game, and he could not afford to pay for his training. So he requested Mr. Kawaljeet Singh of NIS to offer free coaching. Mr. Singh gave the platform to learn and practice the game free-of-cost. Another hurdle was that he did not have enough money to buy proper equipment and to participate in tournaments. Besides he didn’t even have a proper diet to be a sportsperson.

Mr. Biswajit Bora, a PWD engineer, was helpful to him. He saw him playing in an All India Tennis Final in Guwahati and, even though he lost, he was greatly impressed and enquired about him from his coach, Mr. Kawaljeet Singh. Bora soon learned of his financial situation and intervened to help.
