Doctor Who Monster Invasion (abbreviated as DWMI) is a magazine and trading card collection published by BBC Worldwide (Immediate Media Company - 1st November 2011). A test set was launched in the South West of the UK in April 2010, 6 magazines and 90 cards were released. The series was relaunched on 5th May 2011 nationwide with 52 issues planned.


The Magazine

The magazine is released every two weeks at a fixed price of £2.60 (issue 1 was £1.50). Magazine features:

  • Contents, rules for a different game each issue & card information
  • Website Info - This page also includes a code for a download on the website
  • All time top 10 - Top 10 of different topic each issue
  • Gadgets & Gizmo's - Information on a different gadget each issue
  • Alien Slamdown - Battle between two different characters/monsters
  • Episode Guide - Random episode each issue
  • Where's The Doctor - Search & Find, similar to Where's Wally
  • A-Z Of Aliens - Two of each letter, 1 every issue
  • Puzzles - Puzzles such as spot the difference and odd one out

The Cards

Set 1

The first set of cards comprised of 165 cards

  • 130 Commons (7 or 8 in every pack)
  • 17 Rare ( 1 in every pack)
  • 12 Super Rare (3 in every 10 packs)
  • 5 Ultra Rare (1 in every 10 packs)
  • The Infinite (1 in every 1,000 packs)

Set 2 - Extreme

The Extreme collection was launched with issue 11 of the magazine and comprised of 180 cards.

  • 150 Commons (7 or 8 in every pack)
  • 18 Rare (1 in every pack)
  • 6 Super Rare (3 in every 10 packs)
  • 5 Ultra Rare (1 in every 10 packs)
  • The Infinite No2 (1 in every 1,000 packs)

Set 3 - Ultimate

The Ultimate collection was launched with issue 32 of the magazine. Ultimate collection is made up of 126 cards in total, available exclusively with DWMI magazine, issues 32-52. Each pack contains 6 cards: 5 rare cards and 1 ultra rare card. They build up to a full set of 126 cards over 21 issues and are only available with DWMI magazine and not in shops.

Downloadable Cards

Time & Space

A set of 40 downloadable cards which you can print out and add to your collection are being released. The code in issue 33 enables you to unlock the first batch. These cards show different places and planets which have been on the show.

Attack

A set of 20 downloadable cards which you can print out and add to your collection are being released. The code in issue 37 enables you to unlock the first batch. These cards show different attacks which aliens/enemies have done. code:mondas
