ContrAddiction is an all original rock band based in Sacramento, California. Influenced by rhythm and blues, country, folk, funk and hip-hop, their music captures audiences of all ages. The band was founded by Shawn Chang brother Shane and Eric Speer in 2006 and now consists of five members; Shawn Chang on vocals and acoustic, Shane Chang on drums and vocals, Eric Speer on electic guitar, T-bone on lead electric guitar and vocals, and Ryan Sweatt on bass.
History
editShawn Chang aka "Prowl Loc" an LA based rapper is most known in the underground rap scene and has reached an international level of fame in Japan where his CD's sell for $70 a piece. While recording California's Finest and working with some notable musicians, Shawn found a taste for Rock and Roll. Brother Shane Chang and Eric Speer where working construction together when they joined Shawn for a Jamm. By summer of 2007 the band was looking for a bass player and convinced East Sacramento native Ryan Sweatt, whom possess a Bachelors degree in Art from Sacramento State University, to play. In late 2007 the band began recording their Demo ContrAddiction and sought out a recording engineer. Guitar virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist William "Tbone" Davenport, recorded the demo using Bluebox Digital a Mobile Studio that he fashioned out of new and used computer parts, and shortly thereafter started jamming with the band. By early 2008 the band was playing numerous venues & festivals in and around the California area some of which being the California State Fair, The Blue Cue, The Kennel Club, Marilyns, Harlows, The Blue Lamp & Old Ironsides. In mid September of 2008 the band started work on their EP Push Yourself Away which was released worldwide via Itunes and distributed by CD Baby on August 22nd of 2009. The EP reached over 30,000 downloads without advertising. By mid 2011 the band began work on their first full length CD How A Heart's Made released in late October 2013.
