"Has clue, not a jerk, no big deal"
Has clue edit
Having a clue, to me, means a number of things (not least the definition as given by Valereee). These can be summed up as:
- Evidence of learning from mistakes
- Asking for help or advice
- Having a demonstrable use case for the bit
- Taking it slow with new permissions
- Keeping away from AN/I (no, really..)
Not a jerk edit
The civility policy applies to every single editor, regardless of tenure or permissions. Deciding someone is not a jerk is pretty easy:
- No blocks for incivility
- No evident incivility
- The proven ability to walk away and cool off
No big deal edit
Adminship is "no big deal" (though it's not WP:NOBIGDEAL) — being an admin on the English Wikipedia takes a toll on your contributions, your mental health and how you view Wikipedia in general.
Put simply:
- The buttons are "no big deal", but the added stress and drama is.
- You will regret becoming an admin some days — "just editing" was easier.
- You will make the same number of mistakes — it's just they'll now be pointed out to you a lot more harshly.
Where's the "big deal" in all of that?
All that being said, when I say no big deal, what I really mean is supporting an editor "brave" enough to give it a go is no big deal to me.
Providing you have some clue and aren't a jerk, the rest really isn't a big deal.
tl;dr:
- I default to supporting requests for adminship
- I default to wanting to nominate people for adminship
- I'm more likely to just not support a request than actually oppose it
