The Velvet AxeMan

edit

The nickname was given to David in friendship by Lawrence Chewning, writer of the gold record song "The Anchor Holds" whom David performed with occasionally .

Although not taken seriously, after several years of being referred to as The Velvet AxeMan David simply accepted the name as a means of distinguishing himself from the many others with the same common English name of David Carpenter.
