Sideswipe is an event played in the 2008 American revival of the television series Gladiators. In this event, a contender must cross their way across several podiums whilst three Gladiators try to knock them off.

Rules

edit

On the whistle, the contender must make their way across five platforms twelve feet above the water. Targets are located at the ends of the first and fifth platforms, and serve as goals. Red and blue colored balls line the two end platforms as well, attached to the side of the platforms by velcro. The balls correspond to the color of the platform that they are attached to. Red balls are attached to the platform with a red background, and blue balls are attached to the platform with a blue background. The stars on each of the end platforms (which are the opposite color of the background) appear to signify which color ball can be legally scored in that target. Three Gladiators standing on a platform near The Wall must swing on ropes in the direction of the contenders, attempting to knock them off before they reach the other side. One point is awarded for each ball a contender successfully deposits into a target. If a contender completes a crossing, but does not put a ball into the target, they receive no points for that crossing. Once a contender picks up a ball, they must complete the crossing before picking up another ball, they cannot pick up another ball from the same platform if they drop a ball.

Sideswipe appeared during the second series of the revival. The game has elements of current event Hit & Run and former event Human Cannonball, the latter of which was axed in the series original run due to injuries to the participant who was being swung against. Sideswipe was only ever played in America.
