My first edit to Wikipedia was made 2006.09.19, on the topic of recorder of deeds. My background is as a generalist, and as an amateur genealogist. I am a technical writer by trade, good cook, and editor. I have collaborated (primarily as editor and researcher) on a broad revision of Charles Derry's Dark Dreams, which updates his discussion from 1977 on the horror film.[1] Charles is a film theoretician and historian who focuses on genre criticism, and my association with him (of 34 years in 2015) has burnished my knowledge of film somewhat. I have worked several years on a long genealogical study of a young woman who emigrated from Germany in 1865 and married in 1874 a man who had lived across the river from her German town.[2]

I am fluent in German, and I have some ability in French. I translate both languages to English on an occasionally for friends and for business. I can read and understand several other Romance languages also.

I imagine my contributions to the Wikicommunity will be rare, and, I hope, as accurate as humanly possible.

I'm always open to reasoned discussion, and often not defensive in receiving criticism. ...Just try me. Is dry humor coming across?
