Md Lutfor Rahman was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Bangladesh Army in the corps of Artillery. He served in the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Rifles(now known as BGB). He was the Commanding Officer of 24 Rifles Battalion Bangladesh Rifles in Dhaka[1] when he was brutally killed in the 2009 Bangladesh Rifles Mutiny.[2][3]

Early life edit

Lieutenant Colonel Lutfor was born on 10 November 1964, in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district. He completed his education from Mirzapur Cadet College(MCC), where he was the College Prefect.

Career edit

Shaheed Lieutenant Colonel. Md Lutfor Rahman,psc commissioned in the Bangladesh Army on 19 May 1985 with the 12 BMA Long Course and joined the Corps of Artillery. He served in different capacities to include: 4 Mor Regt Arty, 56 Indep AD Bty, 57 & 58 Indep Med AD Bty, 38 AD Regt Arty, Sylhet Cadet College, Armed Forces Division, 6 Fd Regt Arty, 15 & 26 Fd Regt Arty. He also served as a commanding officer of 12 Fd Regt Artillery. In 2006 he was posted to Bangladesh Rifles, where he served as a Wing Commander of RTC&S and as the Commanding Officer of 6, 24 & 38 rifles battalion. Lt. Colonel. Lutfor is a graduate of DSCSC, Mirpur Cantonment. In his career he worked with the United Nations as a Military Observer in Georgia(UNOMIG mission) and in the Western Sahara peace keeping mission(MINURSO). On the fateful day, he was the Commanding Officer of 24 Rifles Battalion at Peelkhana BDR HQ. He was brutally killed on 25 February 2009, months before being adorned with the rank of Colonel.

Personal life edit

The Lieutenant Colonel married Munmun Rahman. They had one son and one daughter.

Death edit

He was assassinated in the Bangladesh Rifles mutiny on 25th February 2009 by Sipahi Imran. He was buried in Banani Army Graveyard.
