The Affordable Housing Institute is a Boston-based non-profit organization focused on improving the finance and management of affordable housing around the world. The institute uses an "ecosystemic" approach in its work analysing housing projects and markets, and helping facilitate development. In 2008, the Institute received a $1 million dollar grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundationto "to promote research and education on the socioeconomics of shelter in urbanizing communities outside the United States"[1][2]

AHI is considered a global thought leader and is frequently invited to present at conferences and universities, such as on Panel 3 at the World Urban Forum in 2010 [[3]] as well as judging international competitions[4] [5]. AHI also provides expert consulting services for public, private and non-profit projects, and has recently worked in India, South Africa, Colombia, Turkey and several countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council. Recent partners include the Ashoka Foundation. [6]
