I am a new contributor to Wikipedia. I had a bad experience on my maiden voyage, with a vicious and scary individual; I ended up by getting myself blocked by thinking I could duke it out with someone who obviously knew how to handle himself in the wiki-ring, and knew what he could get away with. I am sensitive, highly educated, and I prefer gentle company, however I also have strong intellectual opinions and I'm not afraid to express them. I think that ultimately I'd like to have a role on wikipedia, not so much as a page editor, but as a patroller of good-faith behavior on here. I understand that in order to get there I'll have to establish myself with edits, and I'm willing to do so. I also plan on seeking out a mentor to guide me in my development on wikipedia, and a friendly person just recommended someone to me. I will follow up the friendly advice. These days I play a lot of chess, but my background is in the Humanities. I'm a bit reticent to say more, more details, because I've seen what ill-meaning people can do with openness and vulnerability, so I'll stop there. If you see me on here in a year or so it will likely be because I'm telling you to mind your manners, at least that's where I hope to end up in this virtual society.
