Academic career edit
Buras studied physics at the University of Warsaw and obtained his master's degree in 1971. After emigrating to Denmark, he obtained his PhD in high-energy theoretical physics in 1972 from the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen under the supervision of Professor Poul Olesen. After spending three more years as a postdoc in Copenhagen, he was a fellow in the CERN theory group from 1975 to 1977 and then moved to Fermilab for five years, before becoming a staff member of the theory group at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich in 1982. Since 1988, he is a full professor in the Physics Department of the Technische Universität München in Munich.
