Newznab edit

Newznab is an NZBS.org[1] clone PHP/MySQL application, which supports the indexing of Usenet headers into a searchable index of NZB files using a simple web based interface. Newznab is supported natively by Sickbeard, CouchPotato, and Newsflash+.[2]

Features edit

Includes simple CMS facilities, SEO friendly URLs and designed with the intention of allowing users to create a community around their index. In addition it also supports:

  • TVRage integration
  • TMDb & IMDB integration
  • Amazon.com integration

History edit

In 2007 Bokko.nl published a projected titled php-nzb-generator[3] which stored nntp message headers in a mysql database using PHP's PEAR Net_NNTP library[4]. Around this time the popular Usenet indexing site NZBS.org[5] was born utilizing the Bokko code.

In the spring of 2010, following the closure of the Usenet indexing site Newzbin, a number of software developers from the SABnzbd community decided to write an open source usenet indexing application. The intention being to spawn many new indexes, both public and private, in the same way as the popular open source bittorrent tracker tbsource[6] had enabled people to easily set up their own bitorrent trackers.

The code base started from the php-nzb-generator project[7], but rapidly evolved into a customizable nzb indexing application, which intended to replicate many of the features from the NZBS.org[8] index.
