Michael Kollwitz is known for playing the Chapman Stick. In 1976, after meeting inventor Emmett Chapman, Kollwitz became a longtime protégé and friend.

In 2003, Kollwitz transitioned from the telecommunications industry to full-time dedication to his music. In 2017, Kollwitz gained additional notoriety with the release of his Serenity Trilogy securing a position on the Billboard charts. In addition to playing live at various venues, he has released over 30 recordings over a 28-year span. In 2023, the book, "Stick With It: Adventures of a Chapman Stick Player," was published, with Kollwitz chronicling the early days of The Stick and his long-time relationship with the late Emmett Chapman. Kollwitz has also incorporated his music into presentations as a keynote speaker.
