+ + I chose to read and evaluate the article titled: Language acquisition

+ 1. Is there a warning banner at the top of the article?

(Please note: If the article you are evaluating does not have a warning banner, choose a warning banner from a different article and explain the warning that is in that banner.)

No. It is important to have the warning banner because it may ask to have an expansion on the article or if the article is not authentic enough and needs more sources to be cited, there can be a dispute about that. For example, in the + article titled: Summer Triangle and it this article has a warning banner that states "This article includes a list of references, but its sources remain unclear because it has insufficient inline citations. Please help to improve this article by introducing more precise citations. (February 2010)" and this is important because one may never know if this is false information and knowing that the sources are unclear can be a huge concern.

+ 2. Is the lead section of the article easy to understand? Does it summarize the key points of the article?

The lead section does have an easy to understand beginning, but the only thing is that

+ 3. Is the structure of the article clear? “Are there several headings and subheadings, images and diagrams at appropriate places, and appendices and foonotes at the end?”

The structure of the article is very good, it has headings, subheadings, footnotes, references, as well as a few pictures and provides some other links to read more further into the topic.

+ 4. Are “the various aspects of the topic balanced well”? That is does it seem to provide a comprehensive overview of the topic?

The aspects of the article are very well balanced because it goes from the brief summary of what it is and then goes into a deeper conversation into what it actually is, such as background, history, more depths to what language acquisition is. The comprehensive overview of the topic is very well detailed and is very well understood.

+ 5. Does the article provide a “neutral point of view”? Does it read like an encyclopedia article instead of a persuasive essay?

This article is more like an encyclopedia meaning that it has a neutral point of view and has more of a deep meaning like a textbook or encyclopedia.

+ 6. Are the references and footnotes citing reliable sources? Do they point to scholarly and trustworthy information? Beware of references to blogs; look for references to books, scholarly journal articles, government sources, etc.

This article provides 77 references as well as other links to do further reading about the article and these sources and references are very reliable. The information within the references and links have enough detail that can accompany this article because it provides scholarly trustworthy references.

7. Look for these signs of bad quality and comment on their presence or absence from the article you are evaluating:

There are about three references that are deprecated because they are not good enough information about it to make it an official reference (they are in need of the coauthors)

+ c) does the article refer “to ‘some,’ ‘many,’ or other unnamed groups of people,” instead of specific organizations or authors or facts?

The article refers to many authors, organizations, and facts because it provides 77 references

+ d)does the article seem to omit aspects of the topic?

I would have to say that the article does and does not omit aspects of the topic because it does give a good thorough explanation about what they are talking about, but it would be better if the article gave out more information about certain subheadings.

+ e) are some sections overly long compared to other sections of similar importance to the topic?

The important sections are long and have detailed information, so both the long and the short are well balanced in importance.

+ f) does the article lack sufficient references or footnotes?

The article does not lack in references, although it does lack in footnotes, there is not enough.

+ g) Look at the “View History” for the article. As you read the conversation there, do you see hostile dialogue or other evidence of lack of respectful treatment among the editors?

In the "View History" section, there is foul language put out there, although it is mixed in with some helpful guides to improving the article. There was one very rude comment that I and many others can agree with being foul.

It is hard to tell if these authors have the credentials to even write this article because when I clicked on their profile, nothing really pops up and there are way too many authors to go through. I am going to say that they know what they are talking about, especially because this article is very detailed. It is hard to find some evidence to prove that they have some kind of background on this kind of subject. Some users are actually blocked and cannot go to their profile and some others do not have any posted on their profile regarding their degrees, credentials, etc. Luckily there is one person I was able to find after looking through the sea of authors and I was able to find user: DMacks and this person has their teaching credentials at a university, meaning that this person is a professor in the area of chemistry at University of Pennsylvania.

The depth of this article is very detailed. It specifies in all areas of the subject and the subheadings are very detailed as well, it touches the most profound information.

This article is an academic article because of all the intricate details.

The purpose of the article is to understand how the brain works while it is learning a new language, this works both with children and adults. It talks about the history of the study and around what time this started, the different categories there are to language acquisitions and mind development. The article goes more into depth about how better it to learn a language at a younger age and how useful it is because it keeps the mind active.
