The Rev. George Bowen was born in India in the year 1816. He was a missionary, author, and editor. He died in Bombay, India, on Feb. 5, at the age of 72 years. He was one of the best known of American missionaries in foreign lands, particularly because of distinguishing personal characteristics.

Education edit

George Bowen was very intellectual man and also a much accomplished man. He was schooled in speaking French, Spanish, German, Hindustani, Italian, Marathi, English, and many other European languages.

Career edit

George Bowen spent a fare chunk of his life as a missionary in India. He was a "learned man, an author, a clear thinker, a transparent preacher of great humility and usefulness,a good musician,-a John the Baptist to prepare the way for the Lord's coming to establish the self-supporting Indian mission of which he was now become a member and minister."

Writings edit

The majority of his writings came from him being editor of a magazine called The Bombay Guardian. He had written for this particular magazinr since 1854. Other works of his included: "Daily Meditations", "The Amen's of Christ", "Love Revealed", and other works that have been regarded as high works or religious literature.
