Sweet L.A. Life is a novel series created by actress Maryam Wells. The series began in 2010 it revolves around the lives of teenagers Megan and Ashley Bennett, identical twins who live in the middle class of Seattle, Washington, but moved to Los Angeles after their father gets a new job at a Los Angeles hospital. The books are generally classified as for teens & young adults. Some books may have profanity.


Plot edit

Megan and Ashley Bennett are identical twin sisters, living the life in the Seattle, Washington The twins are 15-years-old with with different personalities. Megan, is the younger twin, who dresses causal chic and is more smarter and sensible. Ashley, is the older twin, who's sassy, abrasive with a free-spirited attitude, who dresses more trendy and sophiscated. While counting the days until their best friend's sweet sixteen birthday bash, their father drops a bombshell. He gets a promotion that relocates the family to L.A. The twins take the news as a shock. They meet teens in the upper, middle, and lower classes of L.A. Megan and Ashley meets students at Bally High School, tomboy blond Sabrina Coles, overachiever, Christie Evans, her school paper editor boyfriend, Marvin Dilton, and most popular girl in school, Sonia Martinez. The twins developed a crush on hot surfer, Jack Wheeler. They used cellphone to talk to their friends instead of Facebook. The twins survive their high school years and adventures on the West Coast with it has beaches, palm trees, and an hot sun.

  • Megan Bennett: The Smart, intelligent Twin. She's the younger twin, born two minutes after Ashley. At the beginning of the book, all she wants is to be smart and the best at everything, but then, at the end of the book, realizes she can be smart, have friends, a social life, and be fashionable, too.
  • Ashley Bennett: The cool, fashionable social twin of the two. She initially desperately wants to be friends with Sonia Martinez, leading to Sara Manning trying to get her in trouble, but then realizes that what she really wants is some good friends who she can always depend on

Recurring characters edit

  • Steven & Tess Bennett: the twins' parents; Tess is level-headed, softspoken, and caring mother. She has great taste where the twins inheireted from. Steven is very uptight and converative than his wife.
  • Lina Bennett: the twins' little sister; She's the more brainiac sister in the family. She's is like her mother with long brown hair.
  • Jack Wheeler: The twins' crush; Jack is a champion surfer with killer good looks. He and Megan started dating in their second semester of their sophomore year at Bally.
  • Sabrina Coles: She is the tomboy of the series. Loves surfing, skateboarding, and is the most athletic beach blond in L.A. She leaves L.A. when her father has cancer and returns for graduation.
  • Sienna Hollins: The twins' best friend; She's also one of the richest girls in the world. Her family and twins' family are close friends. She has known the twins since their preschool days. Sienna moved to L.A. to live with her mother and hang out with the twins on a daily basis.
  • Marvin Dilton: Sabrina's best friend; He had a major crush on Jennifer before realizing he likes Christie. He is the editor-in-chief if The Odysessy.
  • Christie Evans: Marvin's girlfriend, Reporter of The Odysessy; She's an intelligent student, about as smart as Megan. Though a genius, she is also arrogant and nasty. She always makes fun of Megan for being stupid (although she is as smart as Jazmine) and for being the pretty girl.
  • Sonia Martinez: The most popular girl in school. Though she starts out sweet to Ashley, she eventually shows her true colors, an arrogant, hot-tempered girl who thinks she's better than everyone. She gets pregnant during the second semester of junior year at Bally. She did not appear in The Final Year
  • Nick Huntington, Ashley's first L.A. boyfriend, motorcycle champion. They broke up in A Crazy Homecoming.
  • Matt Edwards, Ashley's boyfriend who was her second serious boyfriend of the series. He is the star quarterback at Bally High's rival, Lancaster High School. He leaves L.A. after getting expelled from Lancaster for starting the school fight between Bally and Lancaster.


  • Paul Porter, Megan's boyfriend. He started out as Ashley's crush, but he was more interested in her twin, Megan. When Paul and Megan got together, her father was against the relationship, he forbidded Megan to see him, causing her to run away with him in Runaway Girl.

Sweet L.A. Life: The Final Year edit

The twins start their senior year at Bally High. Sonia Martinez has left Bally High due to giving birth and has now transfered to a school for teen-parenting. Megan Bennett, who broke up with Paul in Our Last Night, starts senior year off by dating a new student, Ethan Ford, a rising basketball star and Ashley falls for Ethan best friend, Sean Cameron. In the series, the original characters return for their last year of high school, along with new student, bubbly Chelsea Ownes and Lancaster cheerleader, Rachel Scott.


  • Senior Year: As the twins start senior year, they met new friends, and fall for two cute guys.
  • First Date: Megan goes on her first date with Ethan since her split with Paul.
  • Secrets Exposed: At the annual slumber party, Ashley accidently reveals kissing Megan's ex, Paul, causing a rift with the twins.

  • Ethan Ford

Ethan was one of many Lancaster High student who transferred to Bally. He first met Megan when they volunteered to fix Maxi Burger due to the earthquake. Then he and Megan started dating. until they broke up in Magical Prom Night.


  • Sean Cameron

Sean is Ashley's new boyfriend for the final year. He's good looking, and attractive. He first catches Ashley's eye in the first book, Senior year. They break up in the last book, Graduation.


  • Chelsea Owens

Chelsea is the new bubbly and dimwited new girl at Bally, she's a new cheerleader on the Bally cheerleading squad, replacing Sonia Martinez


  • Rachel Scott

Rachel is Sean's ex-girlfriend. She hated Ashley for hooking up with Sean. She's still a student at Lancaster High, but the two clashed for Sean.

Sweet L.A. Life: The College Years edit

The third spinoff of the series is part of the Sweet L.A. Life young adult book series created by Actress/Author Maryam Wells. The series featured twins Megan and Ashley Bennett starting college and their internship at a teen fashion magazine run by the paternal aunt. Megan's new job at Teen Flair was to answer teen and fashion advise. Unlike any of the other spin-offs, The College Years covered two years of the twins' lives, their freshman and sophomore years.

This series occurs when the twins start their last year of middle school in their original home Manhattan. Jennifer and Jessica get rezoned to a new Middle School, Preston Middle School after their old school, Lincoln Middle School gets burned down. Jessica is more popular than Jennifer. She makes two best friends called Tiffani & Francine. Dori Wallace, the mean girl, with a 4.0 GPA, who hates Jennifer for kissing Max her ex-boyfriend and calls her Lose-low. Jennifer joins the cheerleading team while dealing with her childhood best friend Sienna Hollins being away at boarding school. Also, each of the twins take turns telling the story about their last year of middle school. There are a total of 16 books in the series.

Sweet L.A. Life: Earthquake edit

A simple school dance at Bally High turns scary when an earthquake hits L.A. While Tess, Steven, and Lina are trapped in their home, things go worse when Megan, Sabrina, Marvin, and Christie are trapped in the damaged school library. A big tile from the ceiling falls and injures Christie's right leg and she is knocked out cold. Ashley and Paul are in peril when she twists her ankle while trying to seek shelter from the storm. Steven and Tess searches for their teenage twin daughters.

Maryam Wells is a model and actress. She started her career Modeling for JC Penney, Macy's, Ann Taylor, and other brands. Following modeling and acting in commercials and Television, Wells writes Teen and young adult books, Sweet L.A. Life and Rich Girl, also launched to fashion lines, Dazzle and Sweetmary, and she opened three stores, first, Dazzle, the second, Sweetmary, and third, Cupcake store. She create a Sweet L.A. Life brand from her book series. Maryam has created a new book series about only a teenage girl in Being Liz about Liz Chapman, a teenage girl with a bunch of friends and her life as a California.
