East Side Elementary is a school located in Marietta, Georgia that has been in operation for 58 years. In 1946, Miss Lois Holcomb donated 10 acres of land to the Cobb County Board of Education. This school was to replace a two room school house with the name of Mt. Bethel, so its original name was to be Mt. Bethel. The school was originally an 11-room single-building school with 314 students in grades 1-8. Over the years, East Side Elementary School has grown as has East Cobb. In 1957, 2 more classrooms were added, in 1962, four were added, and four more in three years. Later, the East Cobb population grew so much, that an 11-room wing was added. Along with the new wing, there was a playground, cafeteria, and kitchen. The original cafeteria was turned into the media center that was still in use. During the 70's, there was a "modular" building added. Later, 11 (which seems to be the lucky number here) more rooms were added. As of this year, there were a total of 48 classrooms. This year, East Side Elementary School is scheduled for demolition and re-opening this fall.
