Rituparna Bhattacharjee emerged as a child prodigy of Bengali literature with the publication of her book Bhutia (1) In 1998 at the age of 11 as the book contains 17 unforgettable short stories which she wrote before she attained the age of 10. She already bagged the second prize for short story writing before that from a renowned Bengal children magazine Suktara and her story was published in The Voices of The Statesman
BHUTIA was released by the then Chief Minister Jyoti Basu and appreciated by the then President of India Hon'ble R.K.Narayanan and by the Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal K.V. Raghunath Reddy (2). The book was reviewed extensively by the newspapers in Bengali and English in the country and abroad. The book got a plethora of praise from eminent writers like Syed Mustafa Siraj,Tarapada Roy and Abul Basar, Pallav Sengupta and so on.Rituparna got 'Jugal Srimal Excellence Award' for the book in Education in 1998. These stories (3)revealed the thoughts of a child in a gloomy surrounding. Rituparna did not soar high to the world of fancy, she trod on the ground to pick her experiences embedded in reality . Rituparna was born on November23, 1986 at Dum Dum.She had her schooling at Christ Church Girls High School and college life in the St.Xavier's College, Kolkata. She did her masters in Chemistry from North Easterna Hill University with the Indira Gandhi fellowship from UGC ,in NEHU, Shillong. She did her Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry in BITS , Pilani. She is doing Post Doctoral research in Purdue University Of late she has been invited by the University California to present Science poster in the Quantum Chemistry . As writer ,Rituparna is associated with Unish Kuri, a Bengali magazine of the Ananda Bazar Group, Kolkata. She wrote in Desh (4) and Unish Kuri for a long time Her story was published in the Statesman Voices at the age of 12.(5)
She writers features and short stories for the magazine. At present she is doing her post doctoral research in Purdue University West Lafayette, Indiana.
