Plunderland is an adventure iPhone game, released on July 22nd, 2010. Plunderland, the second iPhone app from Johnny Two Shoes, challenges players to plunder islands and ships while defending their ships from island natives and the British Navy. Plunderland is loosely based on Johnny Two Shoes's Flash-based game Pirates of JTS.

Plot

edit

4 wannabe pirates quit their day jobs and head out to the open ocean on a haunted ship to plunder the masses. Play as Captain Peg Leg's ghostly spirit and help your wannabe pirates steal back his treasure from the wicked sea tyrants.

Gameplay

edit

Although loosely based on Johnny Two Shoes's Pirates of JTS, Plunderland is extremely unique. Even though the basic components of the two games look alike, they are very much different from each other. Most notably, Plunderland includes a career mode and storyline, which Pirates of JTS does not. Unlockable boats, multi-touch compatibility, and a dynamic intelligent camera are also features of Plunderland, as revealed in a July 2010 interview with Pocket Gamer. [1]

Plunderland will not include an on-screen joystick, which the studio's other iPhone game, HighSpeedChase2, does. Instead, tilting the iPhone controls the ship, as detected by the device’s accelerometer. All other interactions, such as firing cannons and picking up treasure, are controlled via the touch screen.

Plunderland also has unique scenery to it. The islands on which the “Island people” reside on vary depending on the type of island people. There are two types of island people, paradise and tribal. The tribal are more territorial than the paradise islanders, so they are more likely to fight back, and fight hard when being plundered.[12] Also, sharks and sea monsters will attacking your ship as you plunder. Joshua Scott-Slade described the gameplay as this:

"A shark attacks you, but instead of shooting it or being scared, you can grab it, pull it out of the water and use it as a weapon against the enemies. If you have a taste for the dramatic, you can even tear it in half when you no longer require its services."

Reception

edit

Plunderland has been reviewed by several websites, including IGN, Pocket Gamer and Touch Arcade. Reviews have been high for Plunderland, with scores ranging from 8-9 of 10. Praises include its actual pirate gameplay, non-stop action, multiple upgrades, and high quality graphics.[2]
