Olukonda 'Nakambale' Missionary Church edit

Nakambale Missionary church the first church built in Ovamboland was build in 1889 by Martti Rautanen also known as Nakambale a best-known Finnish missionary in Owamboland. He got the name Nakambale from the locals because he use to wear a hat that looks like a basket. Nakambale means basket in Ovambo.[1] [[1]]

Nakambale Museum and Rest camp edit

In 1889 Martti "Nakambale"Rautanen built the first church in the north of Namibia and in 1893 a house for missionaries. Until now these buildings exist. In 1992 they were made a national monument. Those building are now maintained by the Evangelic and Lutheran Church of Namibia (ELCIN). They were refurbished in 1992 and 1995 respectively with the help of the Finish Government. The camp started operation in 1995 and is located 13 km south west of the regional town of Ondangwa. It consists of 5 traditional huts, 5 permanent tents and a spacious camping area. Plans to expand the campsite and rest camp is underways as the number of tourists are increasing. The permanent tents will be removed and will build rooms and toilets. All this will be financed by the Finish Government.
