Omutumwa is an Oshiwambo-language newspaper published twice in a month in Namibia.[1]

It was established by Victor Angula Franciscus in the year 2010 and launched on 28 September 2010 in Windhoek,Namibia. Omutumwa is an Oshiwambo word for messenger.

History

Victor Angula Franciscus,the editor of the Omutumwa newspaper does not have qualifications in media studies or journalism. He developed a love for the media when he volunteered at the Katutura Community Radio KCR, which is now Base FM. During his time at KCR, he attended donor-funded courses that would prove to be useful later.After three years of volunteering at KCR, he thought it was time to move on to something else and established the Omutumwa newspaper.The newspaper is produced from the Editors home and the business has no computers or office furniture.The newspaper is driven by a raw will to create employment and the need to provide news in print to the Oshiwambo-speaking population of Namibia.The newspaper has a print run of 5000 copies. So far, the paper is selling well in Katutura.The newspaper is currently printed in South Africa however the editor is planning for to be printed in Namibia in the near future and to make it a weekly newspaper.The newspaper is currently distributed in open markets and is not yet available in stores.
