THE RISE OF BUDDHISM Many thinkers in the later Vedic Period were trying to understand the political and social changes taking place in our society. One such thinker was SIDDHARTHA. SIDDHARTHA was born in 567 BCE in Lumbini Garden near Kapilavastu in Nepal. His father was a Sakya chief of Kapilavastu. As a Kshatriya prince,he was brought up with great luxury. His father shielded him from great exposure to all human suffering for a long time. He married and had a son. But on his different outings from the palace he happened to see certain realities of life that disturbed him greatly. on different occasions, he saw a very old man,a sick man and a death body. As a young man not having faced any difficulty in his life, he was extremely moved by these sights. It was the first time he was witnessing suffering of any kind. Then he saw an ascetic who seemed to be unaffected by the pain and sorrow around him.
