Sigma Lambda Phi
editIt was founded on August 03, 1933 and is currently the oldest Sorority at the Catholic school of Duquesne University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States of America. Established by the three (3) Jewish girls namely: Ms. Molly Marcus, Ms. Lily Joseph and Ms. Kathy King. Their reason for beginning the tradition of this sorority was because no other sorority on campus would accept them due to their Jewish heritage.
History in the Philippines
editOn August 03, 1948 when the late Tol Sergio Lopes Paredes was sent to Ontario, Canada as scholar where he was recruited by a local organization, named Sigma Lambda Phi in University of Toronto Formerly King's College. Upon his return to the Philippines he clandestinely organized the original Alpha Chapter in Far Eastern University (FEU).On September 21,1972 with the declaration of Martial Law (P.D. 1081) by the President of Republic of the Philippines Hon. Ferdinand Edralin Marcos, the Sigma Lambda Phi Society ceased operation and all the existing fraternity/sorority, organization and clubs, etc... in the country.
Revival History
editOn December 05, 1975 the Sigma Lambda Phi Society was revived by the Four (4) Revivalists namely: Tol Maximo “maxie” Egloso, Tol Santiago “sonny/sam” Data, Tol Alfredo Sande Cruz Jr., and Tol Gerardo “jerry” Silvestre under the new name SIGMA LAMBDA PHI FRATERNITY AND SORORITY at Philippine Maritime Institute-Colleges Santa Cruz, Manila, guided by the vision of expanding opportunities and horizon for both men and women.
