Triodanis biflora is The triodanis biflora (Specularia biflora) also known as Venus’ looking-glass is an annual herb, shrub or rarely a small tree.
Description''
It has pink, purple, blue and violet flowers. Its flower arrangement is solitary with several axils of leaf-like bracts. The flowers are also bell shaped. Its leaf arrangement is alternate and its leaf type is simple. Its leaves are thin, serrate and sessile. Its sepals are spread out and do not have stipules. Triodanis biflora are bisexual. They are actinomorphic. Its growth range is from 18-24 inches. Its leaves grow 5-15mm lanceolate to ovate. Its leaves have inconspicuous veins on its underside. A whitish sap can be removed from its leaves. The ovary is generally inferior and cap with an epigynous annular nectary disk. It has a fruit that is a capsule or berry. Its fruit dehisces by lateral pores. Its seeds are ellipsoid to orbicular shaped falling from two pores which are found underneath the sepals. It has fibrous roots, has hair and has backward pointing. Its stems are erected and branched from the base.
Habitat
Its habitat ranges from full sunshine to partial shade. Its bloom period is March, April and May. It is found distributed mostly in the state of California, the rest of the US and South America. It can survive in rocky open glades, prairies, openings in ridgetops, open ground along streams, fields, pastures, roadsides and waste ground. This plant has a lot of variability.
