Tamils released from detention edit

A Canadian court has rejected the government's effort to keep four Tamil women asylum seekers in custody. In October 2010, the Canadian government detained 500 immigrants who had entered Canada's west coast illegally.

The Canadian government tried to stop the court orders, as they had a doubt that some of the migrants are from militant groups. However, the court ruled that the women can't be locked up without enough evidence.

Why Tamils Flee Sri Lanka edit

For nearly three decades, Sri Lanka had suffered from civil war and ethnic tensions. Sri Lankan civilians were the victims of regular clashes between the LTTE and government troops. To escape hardship, threats and violence many Sri Lankans started migrating all over the world. Middle class professionals, workers and poor people migrated to South Africa, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Europe, Australia, the USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Seychelles and Mauritius.
