My name is Tara Burns and I have been suffering rectovaginal fistula and various other complications associated with it since 4/2007. There is a lack of publications in the area in developed countries and I am tired of being told fistula does not occur or has been eradicated here.

It is my mission to get this subject investigated and make obstetricians report when they inflict this injury on a woman. Once they start reporting it, then we will have stats to work with and there will be no denying it.

I belong to a social page Living with Obstetric Fistula. These women are from developed countries. (US, UK, Canada and Austrailia.) I can't cite these women or post a link to facebook, but somehow the word has to get out.

Remember hearing the earth was flat and if you sailed past the horizon you would fall off? Was it true? NO, but everyone believed it. I just wish to enlighten the world that obstetric fistula, be it rectovaginal or vesicovaginal, still occurs in hospitals in the modern world, at the hands of doctors and medical professionals, and not just as a cultural problem of third world countries.

Women in developed countries are suffering fistula and looking on the internet to discover it has been "eradicated" except for third world countries and that is just not true. They feel scared and alone and like freaks of nature and that is not acceptable.

Thank you for reading my page and I hope this works!
