Apple Inc use of other's art controversy

edit

On July 5, 2007, Engadget presented an article compiling various issues with Apple's use of art created outside the corporation.

Specifically, they begin the article with a discussion of the lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado at Denver. The suit was filed by Richard M. Kaudy on behalf of Louis Psihoyos. It is case number 07-01353 and makes several claims; mainly copyright infringement, outrageous conduct and conversion/unjust enrichment. The case is assigned to the Honorable Robert E. Blackburn and has been referred to Magistrate Judge Boyd N. Boland.

The article also mentions Apple's recreation of Christian Marclay's film Telephones. It appears that after negotiating to recreate the movie, Marclay eventually declined. Apple recreated the film and showed it during the Academy Awards.

Lastly, the article mentions a cease-and-desist letter from Lugz Shoes over the similarities between their Fall 2002 commercial as well as a remake of a video by The Postal Service for their song "Such Great Heights?".
