Onesi

Onesi is a village (settlement) situated in the northern part of the Omusati region between Ruacana and Tsandi. This village is uniquely well known for its Baobab trees and its largest dam called Etaka, that holds water from seasons to seasons and which normally used for fishing . The village is under the Uukolonkadhi traditional Authority. Not only wambo speaking people found in Onesi but some part of it is a homeland for the Ovadhimba speaking people.


Accessing to the village of Onesi can be done through the Gravel roads from Tsandi which is 29km long or from Outapi, about 31km travelling distance. [1]

In the village of Onesi you find a number of schools including Onesi Combined School, Oshaala Combined school, Ombome Combined school and Onesi Secondary School. The village is also having its own Hospital and a police station, all next to the Onesi secondary school.

Normally,this place receives high rainfalls which once had drastically affected its central part including schools and resulting from this was the closing of Onesi Secondary schools for a period of one month and five teen days on the first term of 2009 as students had no choice but to go back home until the situation gets better when flood water get contaminated by sewage water and it entered the girls hostel and half of the school dinning hall .[2]
