Chadderton Park Sports Club has not always been the efficient, well run Club that you see today. In fact, the Club’s development from its humble origins is quite an incredible story.
Early in summer 1977 Jack Halliwell of Ferney Field Road Chadderton, a renowned football coach and referee, met some lads playing football in the local streets. He offered to coach the lads in the basic skills of football and the coaching sessions soon became a regular event.
By July 1977 Jack realised that he had enough lads training with him to form a football team. He created Chadderton Park Juniors FC, The players were: Billy Clynes; Philip Wakeman; David O’Neill; David McCann; Darren Sutcliffe; Ross Wild; Stuart Wolfenden; Ian Dickinson; Carl Greaves; Andy Weaver; Michael Walton; and Jason Bowes.
Jack then enlisted the help of another local football stalwart, Roy Kelly of Taunton Road Chadderton to manage the team. The lads were entered into The Manchester Youth League. They played their home games on The Haggate at Royton and Chadderton Park Football Club was born.
As funds were relatively non existent, they wore green shirts and black shorts. Jack’s reason for this was that as no other team wore these colours they would not have to buy an away kit! The club’s colours have changed little over the years as today’s teams still wear yellow and green shirts with black shorts.

Chadderton Park F.C. is now considered to be one of the most active and well run football clubs in the Oldham area. The Club runs football teams for children from as young as 3 years old up to the youth section at 18 years old and ensures that all teams are coached by fully qualified coaches. When players become 16 years old they are encouraged to take up coaching football by enrolling on Level 1 coaching courses run by Manchester F.A. at the state of the art Salford Sports Village. We are very proud that year after year many of our youth players take up this option. One of our younger coaches featured in this years Community Shield programme between Man U and Chelsea as Wembley
The Club’s links with local schools continues to improve. In addition to our coaches assisting with after school football training at some of the local schools we were able to set up a school football league which is now in its second season.
The Club’s social calendar continues to grow. Along with the end of season presentation night; the race night and sportsman’s evening which are mainly fund raising events for the Club, there are many events throughout the year where the players themselves are specifically catered for such as football stadium tours; trips to adventure and theme parks; paintball and laser quest. The calendar year always comes to a close with the annual trip to the pantomime at the Coliseum Theatre for the younger players.
The 2006-07 season saw one of the biggest developments in the club history when we signed a lease to take over a run down sports pitch and develop it into a modern football ground for local children to play football. This is a massive financial undertaking by the club. The project is now complete and in 2015 a football foundation grant was approved and the playing surface was dug up, levelled and additional drainage added, It is now by far the best youth facilities in the North west. The Club are very proud to have won football’s Charter Standard Club for the North West England region 2007.

In 2013 the club changed its name to Chadderton Park Sports Club as we has introduced additional sports, Netball, Rounders and Karate. The Netball section has grown from strength to strength and we now have 10 teams, 8 junior teams and 2 adult teams The Rounders section, we have 2 Adult ladies team who play in the Rochdale league. We have introduced Male Veterans Football for the over 35's , we created our own league and have 12 teams, over 120 veterans now play active football each week. As of December 2015 we have 80 football teams, 10 netball teams and 2 rounders teams, 5 affiliated Cerebral Palsy teams. We have approx 140 FA qualified coaches, as well as qualified netball and rounders coaches
We have football teams overseas, we have a team in Uganda and a team in Kenya, we send our old match kit out to them so they too can play in the Famous Chadderton Park Yellow n Green and enjoy the beautiful game In 2014 we introduced Cerebral Palsy football into the club, this has grown so fast, we have over 40 players registered from age 3 - 16, we have 5 affiliated teams with the Manchester FA and we have inspired other clubs throughout the country to copy our set up and now more and more club are offering Cerebral Palsy football to children.
Our Cerebral Palsy players were official mascots at the 2015 CP World Cup.
In Nov 2015 our Cerebral Palsy Coaches won a Double in the Pride of Oldham awards, winning both the group section and the readers votes section.
