The Serenade for Strings (in Swedish: Serenad för stråkar), Op. 11, is a four-movement orchestral composition written in 1937 by the Swedish composer Dag Wirén. The piece premiered on 27 October 1937 at the National Museum in Stockholm, Sweden, with Tobias Wilhelmi [sv] conducting the Stockholm Chamber Orchestra—its two dedicatees.[1]

Structure edit

The Serenade for Strings is in four movements. They are as follows:[1]

  1. Preludium (Prelude): Allegro molto
  2. Andante espressivo
  3. Scherzo: Allegro vivace — Trio: Poco meno moto
  4. Marcia: Tempo di marcia, molto ritmico
