The name Shoujunkyard is a combination of Shoujo, as in Mahou shojo, and junkyard. Other potential names that it won instead of were Majokkyard, Mahojunkie, and Majunkkie. These were rejected because they were ultimately not good enough, except for Majokkyard, which was rejected because out of all the terms for the magical girl genre, 'majokko' is the most obscure.
