This is the page for the User known as Shishigashira.

Shishigashira means Lions Head. This small tree / large shrub is sometimes referred to as the "Japanese Lion's Mane Maple".

Shishigashira is a variety of Japanese Maple, the botanical / biological name is Acer palmatum. It is a slow growing deciduous tree that can be trimmed in the manner of bonsai. It can also be left untrimmed, at which point it more closely resembles a shrub. It is slow growing (3-5 inches per season in temperate climates), needs daily watering / moist soil, and can tolerate full sunlight, but not high arid heat. This plant is relatively rare in the United States, and the larger, trained and trimmed specimens are fairly expensive. Is is also unique in that it is a good specimen for container planting.
