The Special Curriculum[1] at Shenzhen Middle School[2] is a program created by Principal Wang Zheng and curriculum director Jiang Xueqin to prepare Chinese high school students for study in American universities.

The Special Curriculum has two main elements. Its reading program develops the student’s ability to read critically in English, and its directed activities teach students to work in a team. The Special Curriculum’s three main activities are its daily newspaper[3], an English magazine called the “Green Room”, and a for-profit business called the Coffeehouse.

The Special Curriculum is a complete program within Shenzhen Middle School. It has a multicultural staff, an English library, a cafeteria, a fitness program and a media center.
