Hottest 100 Party

edit

A Hottest 100 Party is a celebration held to listen to the broadcast of radio station Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown.

Many events are held worldwide including the offical Triple J countdown broadcast. The 2008 countdown was held at Parramatta Park, Parramatta NSW. Crossovers during the countdown were live to the Melbourne Big Day Out to talk to all the artists on the line-up that made the Hottest 100 this year.

Australians have a public holiday on January 26 to celebrate Australia Day, and this is the day the countdown is broadcast. It has become an extremely popular way to celebrate Australia Day, with many traditions and party themes. A party is usually classed as 'Australian' if there is beer, a barbecue, plenty of sun and quite often a backyard kiddy pool.

One tradition, going back over at least 12 years, was started by the Bohn sisters in Morphett Vale, Adelaide. All guests to the Hottest 100 party write down the songs and bands they voted for onto post-it notes. These are all stuck onto a board, usually near the stereo. When a song voted for plays during the countdown, the voter must stick the post-it note to their forehead. The voter must then pour a shot (usually tequila, cowboys, or other liquer) or finish their current drink before the song is through.

Other traditions include dressing up, dares and betting on songs.
