Dr Malik.Shaheed.Khalil is a student in dental and facio – maxillary specialization from Mombasa, Coast, Kenya (Born in 1993). He is the only Kenyan to be listed in the Top 10 Dental Scientists in India. He is a student of final year, Dental Surgery and specializing in repair of cleft palate, rhinoplasty, ear reconstruction, jaw reconstruction, facial asymmetry correction, dental implantology, maxillofacial surgery and Craniofacial Surgery. [1][2]

Malik has conducted medical camps in New Delhi, Kashmir, Noida, Uttar Pradesh and Uttar Khand with the support of the government and fellow students as the majority of the people cannot afford these surgeries, by finding sponsors for poor patients and also operating free which made him a hero in the society.[1][3]

At a very young age, he is an International Consultant Maxillofacial, Cleft Lip & Palate in Noida. As a student he practices craniofacial, maxillofacial, cleft lip and palate surgery at Sharda Hospital, India. Formerly Consultant Maxillofacial Student Specialist at Apollo Hospital.He was also a member of Cleft Craniofacial Student Specialist at Jaypee Hospital, Noida .[3]

A documentary on Dr. Malik's surgical expertise and success in skull and face reconstruction surgery was telecast at International Film Festival, Greater Noida, India in April 2015. The documentary portrays how children with craniofacial deformities from various parts of India were surgically treated and rehabilitated by him. It showcased how drastically the life of child with facial deformity blooms with happiness, how misery and self pity turns to a normal and healthy life. The documentary was directed by International Co-ordinator and Jury for the International Film Festivals.[4] [5]

He has assisted in research in publishing in journals like International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryImplant DentistryJournal of Maxillofacial and Oral SurgeryScandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery and Indian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.[1] 

He was among those who organised the Indian dental conference in New Delhi, February 2015.[6]

He is the first Kenyan to be among members of the 7th World Cleft Lip & Palate Congress held in India.[7]

He asissted with research in The Textbook on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which is currently the best seller and the prescribed book to be used by undergraduate freshers.[8]

He also was a member of the 4th World Congress on Craniofacial Tissue Engineering, the Joint meet of both the European & Asia-Pacific Conferences, that was held in Greater Noida in 2013. Previously these conferences used to be held in Mumbai and Chennai.[9]

Career

Dr Malik's interest lies in research and improving surgical techniques. Even as a student, he is interested in experiments. He stated, "As a junior resident, I tried applying gutka and betel nut to the lips of rabbits in the bio-chemistry lab and observing them in my first year. After about three months, I noticed changes in the tissues."[1]

Now his research leans towards surgical techniques. He has researched and presented papers on surgical techniques for deformed noses (rhinoplasty), facial paralysis and lesions that may lead to oral cancer, TM Joint Ankylosis and other topics."[1]

He is presently writing a book named,Kenyan Journal of Dental Research.[12]

In 2014 March, he received the Greater Noida Scientist Member Award from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of UP.[13]

He received the Oration Award of Indian Dental Association recently at Auto Expomart, Noida.[13]

He has been awarded the Brammaiah Sastri Oration Award for ground breaking research findings in the field of reconstructive surgery using novel bone morphogenetic proteins by the Indian Association of Bio-medical Students Conference in 2014 at Muradnagar,U.P
