Shaanveer, this is the page where your work will be listed and monitored.
First, only edit when, where, and how we say. After you establish trust and demonstrate competence with useful contributions, you can move on to more interesting areas, and hopefully, eventually, join the community and edit constructively as you wish.
Referencing articles
editHere is the plan:
1. I reference an article. You inspect it. You tell me you understand what I did.
2. You pick an article from a list. You tell me in detail how you would like to reference it. I approve. You make the edit. I inspect it then allow you to go to step 3.
3. You pick one and reference it on your own. I inspect it then allow you to go to step 4.
4. You pick five more and do them. You stop. I inspect.
If all goes well through step four, you will be on your own to do many of these while I (or we) monitor and advise.
Okay? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:03, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Steps
editStep 1
edit- I googled Ira Coray Abbott.
- I found http://www.gettysburg.edu/dotAsset/cc183a2d-dd9b-485c-a4d0-bb418944380c.pdf which looked like a good source.
- I copied the url.
- I went to Ira Coray Abbott and clicked edit.
- I added <ref>http://www.gettysburg.edu/dotAsset/cc183a2d-dd9b-485c-a4d0-bb418944380c.pdf</ref> to the end of the first sentence. I removed the template at the top that said "unreferenced".
- I added ==References== then beneath that {{reflist}} to the bottom of the article. See Shark River Reef as an example of where that reference section fits in. You are smart. figure it out.
- I added to the edit summary bar at the bottom: "Add ref and remove unreferenced template"
- I clicked save. Done.
Did you understand what I did? Any questions? Please answer below (and do not forget to indent your reply). Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:10, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, I understand what you did. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 03:21, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- What am I supposed to do now? - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 03:24, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Are you listening? - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 03:29, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Am I going to do Step 1 right now? - Shaanveer khanna (talk)
- Good indenting. No, you are not going to do step 1. I did step 1 to show you how. You can use that in the future to see how it is done. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:37, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Step 2
editNow it is your turn. Your article name is Inge Morath Foundation.
- Using Google News, search the name in quotes like "Inge Morath Foundation".
- Click a major newspaper webpage that mentions the subject.
- Paste the reference you found here to show me what you selected.
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:32, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I found this reference - http://www.xatakafoto.com/fotografos/inge-morath-la-artista-que-abrio-las-puertas-de-la-agencia-magnum-a-las-mujeres - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 03:40, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Is it relevant? - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 03:46, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Not a good reference. It is not English and may not be reliable news. The site name xatakafoto.com indicates it is a company. See the QUICK TIP at your talk page and try again. Find a major newspaper site. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:49, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Shaanveer, the policy on identifying reliable sources (WP:RS) might be helpful. Chickadee46 (talk|contribs) (WP:MCW) 04:01, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

- Yes! Looks good! On to step 3. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:07, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Step 3
edit- Add the reference you found in step 2 to Inge Morath Foundation just like I did in step 1.
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:07, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've did it! - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 06:00, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Well done! On to step 4. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:09, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've did it! - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 06:00, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Step 4
editDo Citiolone using site:gov
Here are three I found. Which do you think is best?
- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9252880
- http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/231953
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:09, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I'd rather prefer http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9252880 to be inserted as a reference in Citiolone. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 08:12, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Good choice. Please add the reference to the article. When you are done, move on to step 5. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:48, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've added the reference to Citiolone. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 08:55, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

- Good choice. Please add the reference to the article. When you are done, move on to step 5. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:48, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Step 5
editIf possible, find sources that discuss the topic. Also, avoid sources that either promote or talk badly about a subject.
- Try these:
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:50, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've added a reference each to Rampatti and The Extraordinary Seaman. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 09:08, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Problems
editThe problem with Rampatti:
Here's the diff: [1]
- You only should have removed {{unreferenced}} but you removed more than that.
- You forgot to add ==References== then beneath that {{reflist}}.
- The reference you added was a .com (a company). A news site was required.
The problem with The Extraordinary Seaman:
Here's the diff: [2]
- You forgot to remove {{unreferenced}}.
- Your reference IMDB is not a good source. A news site was required.
See if you can fix things. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:26, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've tried my best to fix the problems. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 09:58, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Are you sure that is your best? Look again. See if the references are newspapers or good websites. See how you spelled "References". See the top of one of the articles. See where you placed the reference section in The Extraordinary Seaman and then see the sample Shark River Reef. Then fix them if you can and come back and comment. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:02, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- Shaanveer, please understand that these errors are about you not inspecting your edits and not reading the instructions. Did you notice that when adding the references section, you removed content that was there? Is this a mobile phone problem that caused it? In any case, inspecting your edit was important. Click "History" at the top of the article and click the topmost "(diff)" to inspect. This is not very hard to figure out if you try. If you cannot solve this, it will show a lack of competence and we can go no further and you may end up blocked. Do your best here if you wish to become a Wikipedia editor. You can do it if you try. I believe in you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:49, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
- I've fixed the problem regarding Rampatti and The Extraordinary Seaman, but, there seem to be no newspaper sites or reliable sources for Rampatti and The Extraordinary Seaman. However, the three references I have provided for Rampatti, by my opinion, do seem to be reliable. - Shaanveer khanna (talk) 01:26, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, I fixed the problem at Rampatti. The The Extraordinary Seaman references section is in the wrong place. See the sample article Shark River Reef. The reference for both Rampatti and The Extraordinary Seaman and not reliable. There are plenty of news media sources for them if you use Google or Google news.
