2018 - 640i Engine and Power: Turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6, 315 hp/330 lb-ft of torque

Transmission: Eight-speed automatic M6 Engine and Power: twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, 560 hp (575 hp with the Competition Package)/500 lb-ft

2017 - 640i models use a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine rated at 315 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque; 650i models get a 4.4-liter turbocharged V-8 engine good for 443 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque; and M6 versions beef up the 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 for a 552 hp and 502 lb-ft rating. In the M6 Competition variants, the engine is good for 591 hp and 516 lb-ft. All non-M versions of the 2017 6 Series come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The M6 is available with the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed M-DCT dual-clutch transmission.

2014 -  A turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 producing 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque can be found under the hoods of all 640i models, while a 445-hp, 480-lb-ft twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 powers 650i models. Additionally, the high-performance M6 range gets a variant of that twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 making 560 hp and 500 lb-ft mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Non-M 6 Series models get an eight-speed automatic unit, with a six-speed manual available on rear-drive 650i coupe and convertible models.
